Leatherhead 3 Rams 3

Published on September 28, 2010.

Tonight the Rams headed into Surrey to Fetcham Grove, home of The Tanners, who are currently top of the league table. A strong test, to say the least, as the Rams struggled to find that winning touch, but a late equaliser on a foggy night saw the lads return to Thanet with a share of the points.

The Rams went 1-0 down in the 2nd minute after a freekick, given away by Mitchell Sherwood, was initially cleared but only to the edge of area, when the ball was fired into the bottom right corner, giving Brett Mills no chance. The Rams’ equalised in the 27th minute, where a great piece of skill saw Sherwood pick the ball up on edge of area and flick it up over a defender before he volleyed with his left into the net. The Rams then took the lead when, almost from the restart Paul Axon broke up wing and was fouled but, rather than play the advantage, he called the ball back for a freekick. This was taken by James Gregory and although Luke Wheatley’s header was denied by the upright, Aaron Beech was there to slot the ball in.

The Tanners equalised through a penalty in the 39th minute when a clumsy challenge by Gregory, who otherwise had a good game, was penalised by the referee (although the Leatherhead player made the most of it). The score stayed the same until the 82nd minute, when the Tanners made the most when Gregory was left to deal with two players, but the Rams equalised in stoppage time when Aaron Beech got his 2nd of the match with a 25 yarder into the top left corner (and the ‘keeper didn’t get a sniff).
