Ladies 1 London Corinthians 4 FA Women’s Cup

Published on October 24, 2010.

Today the Ladies faced London Corinthians in the FA Women’s Cup at Southwood, and although their visitors play their football two divisions higher, Ramsgate’s Ladies had long spells on top, with the score-line rather flattering their opponents.

Corinthians played the 1st half towards the Rawdon Road, and with the wind at their back scored almost straight from the kickoff with a second in the 8th minute. The Rams settled and as the half progressed also had a few chances, including a shot from Nic Godfrey that hit the crossbar.

In the 2nd half you could have been forgiven for think that the teams played in each other’s divisions, with the Rams keeping Corinthians pinned back in their area and their efforts being blocked by a combination of legs and luck. In the 55th minute Nic Godfrey finally got one over the line, when her in-swinging corner swerved over the ‘keeper and straight inside the far post. The Rams kept the pressure up and a few more good chances went begging, the most promising when Megan Cavell cut back a cross from the right wing that fizzed past the ‘keeper but also Nic Godfrey’s outstretched leg.  The Corinthians then got a goal on the break and although Ramsgate kept on battling, a 4th for the visitors sealed their journey into the next round.
