Rams 3 Chatham 1 (Kent Cup)

Published on December 14, 2010.

Tonight the Rams welcomed Kent-rivals Chatham Town to Southwood for this Kent Senior Cup Tie, and Wardie gave the youth a chance using Sammy Cliff, Gary Lockyer, George Amber and Tom Tsangarides in the starting line-up.

The Rams had the better of the opening exchanges, and took the lead in the 15th minute when the Chats ‘keeper palmed a shot away, only for Ollie Gray to follow in and poke it home. The Chats equalised two minutes later, when the ball was put in from a very acute angle from the left, but the Rams re-took the lead in the 36th when Gary Lockyer lobbed the ‘keeper, making it 2-1 at the interval.

For the 2nd half there were two changes in the defence, with Liam Quinn replacing Luke Wheatley and Mitchell Sherwood for Curtis Winnett, but the strikeforce remained the same, and within a minute of the restart Sammy Cliff ran through on the right and slotted past the ‘keeper to make it three. The Rams continued to dominate the 2nd half, and the few breaks that Chatham made all fel down at the crucial point. The Rams final substitution saw 17 year old midfielder Jack Kirkby make his 1st team debut, in what turned out to be a fairly comfortable win for a young local line up.

Ramsgate: Brett Mills, Curtis Winnett (Mitchell Sherwood), James Gregory, Luke Wheatley (Liam Quinn), Ollie Gray, Ben Laslett (c), George Amber (Jack Kirkby), Warren Schulz, Gary Lockyer, Tom Tsangarides, Sammy Cliff. Unused Subs: Mark Lovell, Jack Smelt.
