Ramsgate welcomed struggling Horsham YMCA to Southwood today and despite looking the more likely to score with the run of play it was the visitors who led twice, with the Rams salvaging a point through a penalty in stoppage time to remain unbeaten in 2011 – just.

The YM took the lead in the 6^th minute when after a half clearance Dayo Oshitola picked the ball up on the edge of the area and cut inside to rifle it past Jack Smelt. The Rams’ reply was quite rapid however, and immediately countered where, following two clearances, a cross from Warren Schulz on the right found Paul Axon free of his marker to slot the ball past Mark Fox at the far post. The Rams could have extended their lead 4 minutes before the interval when Warren Schulz went through one-on-one with the ‘keeper, but Fox blocked the first attempt and, despite a quick recovery by Schulz, managed to block the second attempt too.

Ramsgate were still making more chances in the 2^nd half, although YM’s substitute strikers used their pace to threaten from time-to-time. Then in the 70^th minute a collision  between Aaron Beech and a defender on the edge of the Rams’ area saw a freekick to the YM and Beech leave the field injured. While the Rams were down to 10 men Kevin Lott placed the freekick short to Daryl Plummer on the left, who centred it for substitute Kieran Mercer to blast it home. Schulz should have equalised for the Rams 7 minutes later, when Mitchell Sherwood’s cross from the right fell to him unmarked in the box, but he didn’t connect properly and the ball was straight at Fox. The Rams kept pushing and it was not until stoppage time when Schulz finally hit the back of the net, with a well placed spot kick after Liam Quinn had been bundled over in front of goal
