With over 70 teams taking part in 8 age groups from Under 8s to Under 15s, Ramsgate FC’s 6-a-side youth tournament on Sunday 8th May was a fun-packed day for all.
24 Clubs from Thanet and east Kent, as well as from towns as far apart as New Romney, Rainham and Bromley, were involved in the secure environment of the Southwood Stadium.
It was a good day for the young Rams as well, reaching the Under 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 finals, winning all but one, and three of which were all-Ramsgate affairs.
The Under 8s’ matches, involving teams from Ramsgate, St Margaret’s, Thanet Colts, Tyler Hill Youth and Victoria Dynamos (Hythe), were played on a non-competitive basis in accordance with FA guidelines, with all players receiving a participation medal.
The Under 9s’ final saw Canterbury Eagles beat Herne Bay Youth, while in the Under 10 category Sturry Kings were runners-up to Lordswood.
Ramsgate won the Under 11 competition, beating Pegasus 81 (from Rainham) in the final, while in the all-Ramsgate Under 12 final, it was the A team that were runners-up.
The Under 13 final was another all-Ramsgate affair, with the East Kent Youth League side runners-up to the Kent Youth League squad, Ramsgate’s Under 14s finished as runners-up to Betteshanger, and in the Under 15 final Ramsgate’s East Kent Youth League team came 2nd to their Kent Youth League clubmates.
Awards were presented by Mick Twyman, Chairman of the RFSA, who helped with some sponsorship towards the trophies.
