Only 14 days after scoring the Gills’ goal in their pre-season friendly at Southwood, striker Joseph Afusi has signed for the Rams, whose management have decided that after a lackadaisical performance at Lordswood, and only scoring 4 goals in 3 games against teams from lower divisions, more experience was needed to bolster the young squad.
The 28 year old Nigerian-born striker boasts an impressive CV after spells in Portugal, Greece and Romania, and more recently of course as a trialist for Andy Hessenthaler at Gillingham (who will continue to monitor his progress with the Rams.)
Afusi, who has played professionally in the top leagues in Portugal and in Greece and for the past two seasons in Romania playing against the likes of Steaua Bucharest and Unirea (who played Liverpool), will make his debut in red at Southwood against Thamesmead Town this Saturday (3pm kickoff).
He was impressed with the Rams when he played against them and makes no secret of his desire to move back into League Football. Afusi holds a level 2 Coaching badge and is looking forward to meeting his new teammates and helping develop Ramsgate’s exciting crop of young players.
Richard Lawson says of the signing ” I spent some time today speaking to Jim and Darren and we all agree that whilst our squad boasts some excellent players, some of the younger lads need a bit more time before they will make an impact. This signing will show our supporters that we intend to be a force this season. Joseph will be a real handful for defences and is a tremendous addition to our squad.”
