25 Sept – Youth Round-Up

Published on September 25, 2011.

Four of the five Kent Youth League teams were in action today, recording three wins and one loss, the Under 15s without a fixture. Similarly, four of the five East Kent Youth League teams were also in action, with two wins, one draw and a loss – the Under 12s having the day off.

Kent Youth League

The Under 18s welcomed Hollands & Blair to Southwood and took all 3 points with a 3-1 win. The Rams’ goals coming from Taylor Day, Shane Mitchell, and Tom Chapman.

The Under 16s continued their good form with another great away performance at Sevenoaks Town. The Rams started well and took the game to the home side with Ben Munday hitting the crossbar with the first attack. The Rams never let the home team settle and had it not been for some great saves by the Sevenoaks ‘keeper the Rams could have been ahead very early on in the game. Kane Rowland found himself room time after time to beat the defence and also the ‘keeper on two occasions, only to see the ball rattle the crossbar to bring to an end to a good first half performance, all be it a frustrating one in front of goal. The 2nd half started much the same as the first with the Rams on the attack and it wasn’t long before sub Dylan Hawkins converted his second in two games and Ramsgate’s first of the game. Jack Granger made it two soon after from the spot when the Sevenoaks ‘keeper brought Mason Webb down in the box and Granger converted from the spot, while Kane Rowland got a justly deserved third goal for the Rams before the final whistle. A special mention goes to Man of the Match Jarrett Francis, for all his hard work up and down the left wing.

The Under 15s were without a game today.

The Under 14s were away to Lordswood and won 4-0 thanks to goals from Dan Vinson, Harris Rodgers, and a brace from Mitch Laing.

The Under 13s welcomed Canterbury Youth to Southwood but ended up on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline. The game got off in Canterbury’s favour, scoring their first goal when the Rams’ defence was caught napping. The young Rams responded within 10 minutes when the quick passing from Louis Clarke, Owen Toller and Michael Curtis put Ollie Harris through who slotted it home, but Canterbury lobbed the ‘keeper twice to make the half-time score 3-1. In the 2nd half the Rams battled and were unlucky not to add to the score. Full credit to the boys for not letting their heads go down.

East Kent Youth League

The Under 18s were away to Thanet Colts and won 3-2.

The Under 16s went into their third game of the season on the back of two wins,  away at Jackie Bakers to Ramsgate Youth, which was always going to be a game where both sides would raise their input in a competitive local derby. The Rams changed their line up slightly before the kickoff, with usual left back Vivek Katelia unavailable, so a re-shuffle  was required. Liam Gallop swapped sides to hold the left side of defence with Niall Turner starting his first outing at this level holding the right hand corner. The first ten minutes or so probably saw the Rams take the game to their opposition, Jolie Treadgold finding himself on the end of a good ball from Conor Buddle to possibly let a good shooting opportunity pass him by. The Rams looked to be more than capable of dealing with anything the Youth had to throw at them, when on the quarter of an hour mark Sid Twelftree was shown the red card for  a middle of the park challenge. A man down and a bit of re-shaping saw the Rams go in at the break 1-0 up, with Treadgold adding to his seasons tally. The Rams went into the break playing like 11 men, and continued to press after the break and without a shadow of a doubt had more opportunities to finish off an offensive Youth side. However, an opportunist strike, though well hit, saw Youth draw level with 9 mins to play. Conor Buddle was immense down the right flank for the Rams, with Lewis Coot superb rolling up his sleeves, Thomas, Hughes, Kirkby, Attwood, Gallop,Treadgold, and Piper were superb, with new incumbent Niall Turner just squeezing Man of the Match for his performance at right back.

The Under 14s travelled to Hythe Stars & Stripes but returned home without any points after a 1-0 defeat.

The Under 13s’ game could have gone either way from the start, with end to end excitement. Thanet Colts were first to break the deadlock, then doubled again soon after. Just before the break however Perriam hit home for the Rams, bringing them back into the game, but still 1-2 down. The 2nd half was altogether different, with the young Rams upping their tempo and Abbott scoring once and Percival twice to put them back in front. Thanet Colts did manage to pull a goal back before the end, but the Rams fought hard aand with a real team spirit throughout. The final score was 4-3 to Ramsgate and with this sense of team spirit, commitment and determination there should be more success for these young Rams..

The Under 12s were without a game.
