Tonight the Stiffs visited Winches Field in another group match of the Kent League Div 1/2 Cup. Herne Bay are of course at the top end of the higher division, and were victors in the match at Southwood at the end of last month, so this was likely to be a difficult game for the youngsters in red (6 of whom were under 18 and two just turned 18).
The game was played at a very fast pace from the start, in spite of the slippery pitch. And despite the difference in Leagues, the young Rams gave Bay ‘keeper Luke Prentice and his defence many more problems in the 1st half than Karl Williams could give Josh Mattless and the Rams’ back four, particularly with strong clearances by Andy Johnston and Courtney Robinson in the middle. Jonny Hindley, Dan G-B and Daniel Hughes all had good chances, and the Rams led 1-0 at the break with Dan Hughes scoring the goal that counted.
In the 2nd half the Rams seemed to threaten even more, with Dan Langiano rifling in a 2nd from outside the area, and when both sides made their substitutions the Rams looked stronger still. Although a 3rd goal seemed to be on the cards it wasn’t to be, but a very impressive display by the Rams.
Rams: Josh Mattless, Luke Alexander, Josh Merry, Andy Johnston, Courtney Robinson, Luke Furness (c), Dan Langiano, Jonny Hindley (Ryan Freedman 80), Dan Gonzalez-Bello (Jimmy Cole 70), Dan Hughes, Josh Wood (Martin Austin 60). Unused Sub: Joe Hickman.
