PREVIEW: Tooting & Mitcham v RAMSGATE

1 year ago By Sam Perkins

Ramsgate look to end their September woes as they travel to Tooting & Mitcham United on Saturday

Ramsgate's focus has turned to the League quicker than hoped having lost to Sittingbourne in the League Cup on Saturday along with their FA Cup exit 10 days before.

Tooting & Mitcham's fortunes mirror that of Ramsgate's as they went out in the FA Cup to East Preston and to Staines Town in the Robert Dyas League Cup on Saturday.

However, that's where the similarities stop. Where Ramsgate have struggled in the League in September, Tooting & Mitcham United have flourished.

Saturday's hosts have picked up 9 points from 9 defeating Horsham and Whyteleafe 2-1 and 3-1 respectively and coming through a gruelling encounter with South Park 4-3 winners last weekend.

Their stuttering August start is opposite to the form of Ramsgate who kicked off the season in tremendous fashion with 6 wins from 7. Yet September has reversed roles with Jim and Danny Ward's men yet to pick up a win since the 3-0 Bank Holiday demolishing of Hythe Town on 29th August.

Many positives still to take for the Rams faithful heading into the weekend. The return of Ramsgate local boy and much-loved winger Tom Chapman is a boost to the ranks. The flying forward started against Sittingbourne at the weekend but clearly lacked match fitness (understandably) and was subbed at half-time for the young starlet Alfie Paxman.

Young Alfie has been a sensation this 2016/17 season scoring goals both home and away for the side. Ramsgate travel to Tooting & Mitcham United on Saturday 17th September, 3pm KO. Follow the match LIVE on Facebook and Twitter.
