Ramsgate Academy entertained unbeaten top of the league Dynamic Football Academy from Enfield, North London, who made the long journey to the East Kent coast on Wednesday morning. With three teams on fifteen points, including Ramsgate, the visitors were unbeaten with a goal difference of +26 from five matches and so a tense mouth-watering match was promised - and we were not disappointed.
In the first ten minutes it was fairly even with both defences being tested. Unfortunately Ramsgate were forced into an early substitution when centre back Jacob Mensah was injured, being replaced by Randall Bax with an enforced change of formation. The home side began to press, with TJ Jadama, Harvey Laws and Corey Hanson all coming close, but in the 29th minute TJ’s through ball put Se’Mon Murphy clear, and he slotted past the ‘keeper to put the Rams 1-0 up. At the other end ‘keeper Charlie Cousins made a great double-save from Dynamic’s forwards, followed by a shot squeezed over the bar to keep the young Rams in front. With half time approaching a four man move saw hard working Hanson slot a pass through to Se’mon Murphy, whose quick thinking drove the ball pass the outcoming keeper to make the score 2-0.
The second half continued where the first half left off. Numerous chances were wasted by the home side and Dynamic began to grow in confidence, slickly passing the ball around and pushing the home defence deeper and deeper. In the 69th minute, with Ramsgate defending, a rash challenge inside the box resulted in a penalty, coolly slotted home by their centre forward to make the score 2-1. This seemed to spur the away side on, and with home legs tiring Cousins in the home goal once again made a number of great saves to deny the visitors. An unfortunate incident in the 87th minutes, which involved a number of players, gave the referee no option but to show red cards to Ramsgate’s Randall Bax and a Dynamic midfield player. Deep into injury time lively midfielder Kye Jarvis sweetly connected with a shot that but it sailed just over the bar, leaving the brace of goals by Murphy to win the match for the Rams who now sit on the top of the table, but great credit must go to ‘keeper Charlie Cousins who kept the high scoring visitors at bay.
