17 Jun: Paul Foley Benefit - Stones 3 Rams 3 (12-11 on penalties)

5 months ago By Martin Able

Rams draw 3-3 with Stones after 90 minutes, but lose 12-11 on penalties (both sides missing 2)

Ramsgate double-winning Legends from 18 years ago took on the Maidstone double-winners from 15 years ago (which included ex-Rams Neil Davy, Nick Davis, Richard Sinden, Jodie Kempster and Simon Pettit), in support of their former team mate Paul Foley.

Had it not been for a fantastic save by Kevin Hudson, Dean Bowey would have given the Rams the lead in the opening exchanges, but as it was Stuart Vahid had to wait until the 32nd minute to break the deadlock. Maidstone equalised seven minutes later and then took the lead on the stroke of half-time.

In the second half Vahid struck again, six minutes after the restart, while Dean Bowey re-established the lead in the 65th minute. Ex-Ram Nick Davis re-equalised for the Stones 10 minutes later, and by the time the final whistle blew it was honours-even at 3-3.

There was a cup involved and so an overall winner had to be found, which meant a penalty shoot-out. And, with 2 penalties saved/missed a-piece, it ended up 12-11 in favour of the Stones.

Ramsgate: Micky Simmons/Darryl Stacey, Mark Harrop, John Munday, Edd Vahid, Steve Coatham, Neil Brown, Martin West, Peter Hansen, Stuart Vahid, Dean Bowey, Tim Dixon, Dave Ward, Russell Wilson, Martin James, Robbie Summers (Manager: Jim Ward)
