The Rams kicked off on a slippery pitch at King George’s field, and after some initial probing by both sides it was the Rams who took the lead in the 9th minute when Rory Smith passed to Tom Chapman, who crossed in to the centre and Alfie Paxman nipped in front to score. Tight marking by the Rams appeared to contain their hosts’ efforts, while they created the most chances themselves. In the 25th minute the ball was squared in from the right by Chapman and Billy Munday fired the ball into the top left hand corner leaving keeper Danny Bracken no chance. Ten minutes later and another chance presented itself when Chapman was brought down on the edge of the area in the centre, but from the resulting freekick Adam Woollcott fired straight at the keeper. Against the run the Casuals got one back on 38 through Jordan Clarke, and he struck again a minute before the interval when a clearance by Luke Wheatley was fired into Chapman’s body and dropped in front of the striker, who could not fail to equalise.
In the second half the rain returned and, together with the introduction of Ben Chiklet in the 54th minute, the Casuals appeared to be more focused. The Rams still made chances, and on 56 Smith had a go but his volley was just wide, and on 64 a foul on Chapman saw Paxman take the freekick and then nearly convert the 2nd ball. The Casuals were still making breaks and with 20 minutes to go Luke Watkins made a great save down to his left, however from the resulting corner Nathan Daly picked up the 2nd ball to give Corinthian the lead. The hosts were now looking for a 4th, and with 15 to go a speculative cross into the Rams’ are went in off Jack Penny. Adam Turton made his 1st XI debut on 84 when he replaced Jake Munday, and as the game went into stoppage time Luke Wheatley was replaced by Jacob Mensah, but the Rams were left with a dismal journey back from southwest London contemplating how a 2-goal lead could be turned through 180o.
