10 Nov: Blacky's Briefing

Wot ... No Saturday Footie?!?

Even as a player there was always something strange about not having a fixture on a Saturday, and as Head Coach it feels no different. Cray Wanderers’ victory in the FA Trophy means our game has now been rescheduled to Wednesday 29th November.

Last Tuesday we entertained Ashford Utd at Southwood. A 3-0 scoreline was very pleasing, not just because of the 3 goals scored but the clean sheet we kept. We spoke openly and frankly as a group before the game about some interesting facts regarding our defensive record this season and large amounts of the goals have been through individual errors. We identified times of matches where we seem to switch off and how we felt we could improve it. The results were pleasing and a clean sheet was thoroughly deserved.

Again Jacob Mensah performed excellently at the heart of the defence. Young TJ Jadama did everything we asked of him and his energy in the centre of midfield caused Ashford all sorts of problems. Our front 3 were looking very sharp and I felt it was only a matter of time before we would break the deadlock and once we got one I knew Chappo, Pax and Rory would get more.

Senior players also stepped up. Joe Kane and Dan Lawrence were outstanding, with the latter now over his knee injury and showing you all what a fantastic player he is. What I can say regarding this group is that even when someone is struggling for a bit of form and are unhappy with their own individual performance, they never, never shirk their responsibility. Honest lads who are proud to pull on the Ramsgate shirt.

Regarding our injured players, Ollie Gray should be available for selection on Tuesday away at VCD. Aaron Millbank is a week or two away from competitive matches with the U23s.

Enjoy your weekend off and I'll look forward to seeing the travelling supporters on Tuesday.
