Ramsgate set out to tame the ‘U’s after they have been thumbing sides 5 and 6 nil. The experience in the visitors’ line-up is unquestionable, and by far the best side we have come across this season. A change in formation saw the home debut for William Hadley in the u23s at the back, and after a nervous start Ramsgate adjusted started to create the most chances, one of which saw Jordan Bartlett (pictured) finish in style from outside the area when he spotted the ‘keeper off his line in the 20th minute to give the Rams the lead. Hastings tried to get an equaliser but some great goal keeping by Lewis Mitchell saw Ramsgate through to half time with a clean sheet.
The second half was set to be tough, with both sides competing for everything and each creating chance after chance. In the 73rd minute Ramsgate where awarded a penalty that was saved by the ‘keeper, but the Rams had a second chance as the ‘keeper moved off his line a little too early and Billy Lewins finished the second attempt with precision and composure to double the lead. However, the experience of the visitors told them it was not over and they came at the Rams with everything they had and took every chance that opened up for them, leaving Ramsgate shell shocked after conceding three times.
