The Development squad welcomed a particularly strong Ashford side to Southwood, which included a number of their first team players, as well as a return for Alex Dinsey last seen at Ramsgate as part of the Kent Youth League Under 16 winning team two seasons back.
The first half got underway with both teams creating chances and matching up all over the park in individual battles, and with some regular players rested we saw the return of Lewis Stevens-Toomey at centre back and a debut for Leon Guess who has impressed in Academy training. The deadlock was finally broken on 39 minutes when Bradley Torrance skipped past his man on the break and finished well with his left, but Ashford undid this with a super strike from 25 yards a few minutes later, and in the closing minutes of the half a ping pong ball found the net off a Ramsgate player to make it 1-2 at the break.
Half-time changes for the Rams saw Leon Guess and Josh Kelsall give way to Adam Turton and Abdoulie Corr, and although the team came out fighting in the second half they couldn’t find the all-important goal, but dug in deep and defended well to keep the second half an even contest between two good sides.
Next Thursday the Under 23s are at home again, against Faversham Town (after the respective 1st teams have done battle at Southwood on the Tuesday).
