Ramsgate made the long journey to Enfield in north London to take on the Tottenham Hotspurs’ Foundation Academy team in the Tactic League Eastern Division on Wednesday afternoon (pictured above having a pre-match briefing from Academy Manager Phil Fennell).
With the usual first-choice ‘keeper not available, and a couple of players having played at Sittingbourne for the 1st team the previous evening, the Rams’ squad was slightly below par, with defender Kyle Nicholls filling in in-between the sticks.
Ramsgate started the brighter and should have been two up, but mid-way through the first half they conceded a soft goal and the score remained at 1-0 until half-time.
In the second half the hosts began to take command, assisted in part by a number of strange refereeing decisions, and another soft goal found the young Rams 2-0 down. In the last fifteen minutes Ramsgate began to pressure the home defence more, and although Semon Murphy had the ball in the back of the net that was disallowed for handball. The Rams were later rewarded with a penalty that Harvey Laws slotted home to make the final score 2-1.
Ramsgate: Kyle Nichols, Harvey Laws, Jacob Mensah, Liam Perquin, Connor Enver, TJ Jadama, Leon Guess, Kye Jarvis, Callum Weatherly, Semon Murphy, Corey Hanson. Subs: Jack Hinkley, Robbie Deacon, Gavin Rainer, Josh Maher.
The Academy side has now played two League games, having won their first match 2-0 at home against Harrow Borough Academy on 13 September, thanks to goals from Connor Enver and Jacob Mensah.
Next Wednesday they are on the road again when they travel to Sutton United in the Academy Cup.
