Squad 2011/12

 

Squad for the 2011/12 Season …   … (incl pre-season trialists).
Paul Axon21 year old winger who made 11 1st team appearances for Margate as an 18 year old. Re-signed the following season and had a spell at Whitstable Town before joining the Rams in 2010/11. Was a regular starter by the end of that season and scoring goals, but decided to go abroad during the 2011/12 pre-season build-up, returning for the 2nd half of the season. Currently sidelined through injury.
 Tom Chapman - 17 year old striker from the academy at Sandwich, ‘Chappers’ is a regular in the Under 18s and scored a hat-trick on his debut for the Reserves earlier in the season, securing a place in the 1st team squad ever since.
Gareth Cornhill - 20 year old defender who can also play in midfield, and progressed through the youth and reserves at Whitstable to become an integral part of the 1st team last season, scoring many goals to boot, and joins the Rams for the 2011/12 after a good performance in the Easter Monday derby.
Bradley Dack – 18 year old midfielder who has scored 20 goals from this position for Gillingham’s Reserves this season, and has also appeared for their 1st team in the Kent Senior Cup. Another player who has joined the Rams for a spell on work experience in February, and opened the scoring on his competitive debut against Burgess Hill Town.
Pascal Ebigbo - 24 year old striker who signed for Kettering Town from Swedish club Bordens in 2010 whilst a Nigerian Under 23 international. Pacy goalscorer who joins the Rams for 2011/12.
Ollie Gray - 20 year old defender who played for Margate’s Under 18s and Reserves in 2008/09, winning Reserves’ Player of the Year, but joining the Rams for the 2009/10 campaign. Developed well during the season, becoming a regular in the starting line up for the 1st Team as well as winning the Young Player of the Year award.
Shannon Harris - 18 year old ‘keeper who joined the Rams from the Gillingham in September 2011 and has been training with the 1st team. Featured in the Friendly against Broadstairs in February and made his Ryman debut against Maidstone Utd in March.
Tom Hickman – 29 year old attacking midfielder who, having broken into Dover’s 1st team as a teenager, played for the Rams in the Kent League days as well as having spells with Margate and Dover again. Has spent the past couple of seasons with Faversham where he was skipper but has decided to give it another go at Southwood.
Ben Laslett – 28 year old midfielder who joined the Rams in 2005 from Sittingbourne. Played in the back-to-back promotion winning sides but missed a season due to a hip injury, returning strongly for the 2007/08 Cup winning campaign, winning Players’ Player of the Year for 2009/10 and taking over the captaincy for 2010/11.
Brett Mills – 20 year old ‘keeper who progressed from the youth to the Reserves as well as the 1st Team, making several appearances for the senior side in 2009/10, and from time-to-time since. Was still with the Rams for the start of 2011/12 but decided to try his luck at Deal Town a few weeks into the season, but returned to the Rams after Christmas to cover Danny Twyman’s injury and play for the Reserves.
Steve O’Brien - 24 year old left-sided midfielder who was a regular in Dover’s Reserves alongside Liam Quinn, and appearing for their 1st tea in the Kent Senior Cup. Has played for Deal Town and Margate subsequently, and was with Canterbury City pre-season (scoring a hat-trick against Lydd Town) before joining the Rams in late August. 
 Jack Parter – 18 year old defender who can play on the left or right and has already featured in several games for Gillingham’s Reserves this season. Joined the Rams on work experience in early February, making his debut against Burgess Hill Town. Currently sidelined by injury.
Simon Pettit - 29 year old local player who can defend as well as attack and has been around the Club since his youth days. Has appeared for the English University side and had a brief spell at Maidstone Utd in 2003 but returned to the Rams and became a 1st team regular. A change in work commitments saw him start 2010/11 with Maidstone but within 2 months had returned to Ramsgate.
Ian Pulman - 27 year old local striker who was at Chelsea as a youngster and then played for Margate in the conference, with a number of loans. Joined the Rams for a spell in 2005/06 and then played in the US and then professionally in Australia. Returned to England and scored 30 goals for Whitstable Town in 2010/11. Almost re-joined the Rams for 2011/12 but opted for Conference football with Eastbourne Boro, but has now made the move back to Southwood.
Aaron Quain – 22 year old attacking midfielder who made his 1st team debut for Margate in the 2007 Boxing Day derby with the Rams, and remained with the Hartsdown team until 2009/10 when he moved to Faversham. Returned to Margate just over a year later before appearing pre-season in 2011 for the Rams in the left back position, but decided to re-sign for Faversham. Left the Lilywhites after Christmas to re-join club Margate once again, but has now decided to finish the season with the Rams.
Liam Quinn - 24 year old who is proven at both the centre of defence and midfield. Whitstable Town’s captain in 2008/009, having joined them on loan from Dover Athletic the season before. Signed for the Rams for 2009/10, where he scored the ‘goal of the season’. Voted Player of the Year in 2010/11 and taking over the captain’s armband for 2011/12.
Warren Schulz Warren Schulz - 33 year old midfielder who joined Ramsgate from local football nine years ago, establishing himself as captain following the Rams’ promotion to the Ryman League. Likes to get forward and was the Rams’ joint top scorer of league goals in 2009/10. Stepped down as captain after 2009/10 to concentrate on his play.
Joe Taylor Joe Taylor – 20 year old striker who was called up to the Margate first team squad at the start of 2008/09 as a 17 year old, making his debut in the FA Cup, but had to wait until near the end of the season before becoming a regular. Infrequent 1st team games last season led to a move to Ramsgate for the end of the 2009/10 campaign.
Danny Twyman - 31 year old ‘keeper who established in the Kent League days, helping the Rams through back-to-back promotions before leaving the area. Has returned to the Rams from time-to-time since, with a single appearance in 2010/11 in the 5-0 win over Whyeleafe, but was injured at the end of the game, and ended the seaon at Whitstable. Returns following the end of Daren Hawkes’ loan, his debut the 4-0 win at Cray in the League Cup.
Luke Wheatley Luke Wheatley - 20 year old defender who came on a month’s loan from neighbours Margate in October 2009 but was recalled at the end of the initial loan. Re-joined the Rams on a permanent basis for the last two months of the season and joined permanently in 2010/11.
Michael Yianni - 27 year old attacking midfielder who, having progressed from Folkestone’s youth set up to Maidstone and Hythe Town, joined the Rams in 2005 for their inaugural Ryman cmpaign, and moved on after the 2006/07 season where he had been 2nd-highest scorer to Shaun Welford. Missed 2 sesons through injury but came back again through Folkestone and Hythe, and played against the Rams for Whitstable in 2010/11. Re-joins Rams from Faversham.

Joseph Afusi - 28 year old Nigerian-born striker who scored for the Gills whilst on trial in the pre-season friendly against the Rams. Has played professionally in the top leagues in Portugal and in Greece and for the past two seasons in Romania playing against the likes of Steaua Bucharest and Unirea and was an immediate hit with the Rams fans, but released in October following inconsistent form.
George Amber - 18 year old striker who progressed from the Under 18s and appeared and scored for the Reserves in 2010/11 and was knocking on the door of the 1st Team. Appeared in firendlies but limited opportunties so is getting match experience at Deal Town.
Aaron Beech – 21 year old defender who started out with Watford’s Youth and Reserves before injury curtailed his progress. Moved to Thanet lin 2009 and spent a season on TOTS books, but moved to Southwood last season and proved to be very influential in midfield or defence. Inconsistent performances and injuries led to his release from the 1st team in October, but still with the Reserves.
Bradley Bough – 21 year old defender, born in Thanet but moved up North with his family. Played for Redditch in the Conference North for a spell before relocating to Thanet last year, where he played local football. Played in the Rams’ friendly against Folkestone near the end of 2010/11 but failed to achieve a regular start during pre-season. 
James Brown - 18 year old defender, born in Margate, who had a successful career with the Gillingham Youth Team. Released in May 2011 and appeared for Ebbsfleet United pre-season. Played a few games for the Reserves and cae on as a sub in a 1st team cup match, but released to try his luck at Whitstable. Son of former Ramsgate skipper Neil.
Jordan Cheadle – 21 year old left-sided midfielder who has signed for Ramsgate for 2012 from Croydon Athletic, having joined the other Rams from Kingstonian a couple of months earlier. Started the season on loan from the Ks at Walton Casuals, and had played for Merstham last season. Made a single appearance for the Rams at Hythe Town.
Joe Dolan – 31 year old who began his career at Chelsea before becoming a 1st team regular at Millwall, during which time he made several appearances for Northern Ireland Under 21s. Failed to regain his place following a broken leg and had loan spells at Stockport County, Crawley Town and Brighton & Hove Albion before dropping into non league, captaining Basingstoke for several of years. Joined Bromley in 2011, and the Rams in December, before Staines in January 2012.
Sam Fisher - 18 year old tenacious midfielder who was released by Gillingham in May 2011 after 4 years. Trialist who looked very sharp during pre-season training with the Rams, and featured for the Reserves. Currentlt getting match experience with Ashford United.
Dean Grant – 21 year old defensive midfielder who started off in Whitstable Town’s youth sides before moving to Dover at the start of the 2009/10 season. After loan spells back at Whitstable and Folkestone Invicta he played for Dover’s 1st team but moved to Margate in February 2010. Moved across the Island to the Rams in December 2011 but failed to break into the 1st team, and is now back at Whitstable.
James Gregory - 29 year old left sided defensive midfielder who returned to the Rams for 2009/10 after two seasons away. Gregs played for the Rams as a youngster, and in the Kent League in 2003/04. He spent the following year at Dover but rejoined the Rams in Ryman 1, being part of the team that won promotion to the Premier Division. Moved to Canterbury in early 2012 in search of regular football.
Ryan Harker Ryan Harker - 27 year old defender, who can play in the centre or either side, who started out in Ramsgate’s Under 18s and Reserves before trying his luck at Hartsdown Park. Started 2009/10 with Canterbury City but rejoined Rams’ Reserves mid-season, and ended up making several 1st Team appearances before the campaign finished. Left the Rams at the start of 2011/12 to play Sunday football.
 Daren Hawkes - 18 year old ‘keeper who was born in Ashford and was regular Youth and Reserve goalie with the Gills. An excellent shot stopper, Daren was called into the 1st team last October when Lance Cronin was injured, and ended the season on a 3 month loan at Ebbsfleet where he helped them through the play-offs. Now turned professional he joined the Rams on loan for the 1st two months of the season following Jack Smelt’s departure.
Jack Kirkby18 year old who has graduated from the youth system to impress at centre-half and centre-midfield for both the Under 18s and Reserves, making his 1st Team debut in the Kent Senior Cup in December and playing the full 90 in the last game of 2010/11 at Burgess Hill. Was on the fringe of the 1st team while developing in the Reserves but has now taken a break for the rest of the season owing to pressures of university.
Matt Lamprell - 20 year old locally born ‘keeper who represented Thanet and Kent as a youngster, and played at academies such as QPR, Cardiff City and Millwall. Played 1st team football at Ebbsfleet United and Margate last season, and made history earlier this year by becoming the first student to be awarded a University Scholarship Award for football from Christ Church University. Joined the Rams as cover for Daren Hawkes but never earned a start, now at Margate.
Chris Lewis22 year old local player who was initially promoted to Margate’s first team at the start of the 2008/09 season but had only made one Kent Senior Cup substitute appearance to his name before a surprise recall in March 2011. Another trialist who has looked good in pre-season training but not making the starting line-up, but may be seen with the Reserves when work permits.
Mark Lovell – 28 year old striker who was a Gills trainee and went on a pro contract at 17, making his 1st team debut against Watford in 2001. Had a loan spell at St Leonards and trialled at Leyton Orient, later joining Hastings, Sittingbourne and Welling, before rejoining Sittingbourne to link up with his father. Signed for Dover in 2007 but rejoined his father at Ashford. Joined the Rams for 2010/11 and won the ‘golden boot’, but decided to take a break in December 2011.
Andrew Miller - Striker who appeared for Margate last season and Dover Athletic in 2009/10. Took part in a number of friendlies pre-season 2011/12 for the Rams and, whilst showing skill, only appeared as a substitute and did not make the final cut. 
Lukman Mojeed - 25 year old central defender who was born in Nigeria and graduated from the FAK-REM academy in Lagos. Joins the Rams from Waltham Forest, who he first joined at the start of the 2009/2010 season and played most of the early games before a change of manager saw him move to Leyton, who he helped avoid relegation. Returned to Forest in December 2010 once Wale had been re-appointed manager, moving to Southwood a year later, but only for a single appearance.
Ryan Moore – 19 year old striker who progressed from Ramsgate’s Under 18s to the Reserves in 2009, where he showed his eye for a goal. Went to Ebbsfleet United last season where he featured for their Reserves, as well as the 1st team in the Kent Senior Cup etc, but returns to the Rams for the 2011/12 campaign. Injured pre-season but returned with the Reserves, before joining Margate’s 2nd XI.
Mitchell Sherwood - 25 year old midfielder who joined Ashford Town from Sittingbourne in November 2007, who he joined from Hastings United at the beginning of the 2005/06 season. Pacy winger renowned for his crosses, as well as his goals, joined the Rams in 2010/11. Remained for 2011/12 but currently having a break owing to work pressures and family committments.
  Jack Smelt – 20 year old locally-born goalkeeper who played for Colchester United at QPR in 2006, and then against the Us for Luton a week later, leading to a scholarship with the Us. Joined Croydon Ath for the 2008/09 season at 18 followed by a spell at Guildford City and then Cray Wanderers in 2009/10. Foined the Rams mid-way through 2010/11 and settled in quickly. Re-signed for 2011/12 and appeared in pre-season games before joining TOTS.
  Stuart Vahid - 30 year old striker who made it from Ramgate’s Youth Section to 1st team before university, where he played for Grange Harlequins in the League of Wales and Cardiff City. Returned to the Rams for the rise to the Ryman Premier, scoring the winning penalty in the League Cup final in the 10th anniversary of his 1st team debut. Joined Deal in 2009 in search of regular starts, and Whitstable in 2009/10, returning to the Rams for the 2nd half of 2010/11. Played for the Rams pre-season but returned to Whitstable for 2011/12 campaign.
Peter Wedgeworth18 year old defender who emerged from the Bromley Academy last season and played for the 1st team before making the move to Croydon Athletic near the start of the current campaign. Joined the Rams in December and, despite fitting in well at Southwood, left after a couple of months owing to difficulties getting to training and home matches.
Curtis Winnett - 23 year old who played in the midfield for Ramsgate’s Under 18s, rejoining the Rams for 2009/10 from Margate Reserves. Has featured in the first XI from time to time, as either a defender or in midfield, and scored a great goal at Sittingbourne. Has signed for 2011/12 but with fewer opportunities has joined Deal.
