Come on then people, let's have some ideas as to how we are going to a) increase interest in the local community & b) increase attendances.
Any ideas are welcome, let's have a constructive discussion that could ultimately help the club…

I don't know about easy, RHS, but that's the bottom line.
Since winning the Ryman cup and making the Ryman Prem playoffs our gates must have halved on average.
I wonder what our fan base is. Probably not much more than 600-700 , if that, going by the derby game attendances against TOTS and the fact we were averaging 300-350 ? including derby games in the cup winning season.
I reckon we'd need a few promotions to get them through the gates.

Mace is right. Success on the field would attract bigger crowds, simple as that. We've been racking our brains on this and the earlier forum for years to find a way of drawing in more through the gates, but success on the field would certainly help. What we DON'T want is some moneybags from Malaysia, Hong Kong, Dubai or wherever, ploughing money in, signing a load of carpetbaggers in it only for the money, then disappearing when things got a little "hot"!

As was mention in the past (years), need to advertise as much as possible. Get those posters out, not just around Ramsgate. Especially when a big game is on – 171 for an FA Cup after 195 for a Ryman League game is not good to say the least. How did Margate get their attendance up so good (400-600 ) after last season disaster for them? Sorry, no more suggestions. Think the boss said a year or so ago, even if he paid people to come it wouldn't improve. Yea, need some good performances on the field naturally. Go the Rams.

Need to get the main stand tea bar fully refurbished and open again first.
Then possibly a promotion of entry to game, fish and chips (or another special meal) plus a soft drink, coffee or tea all for a tenner at every home game. Might catch on if well enough publisied in local papers.
Still only £8 entry for those who don't fancy promotion.

Should try to get involved in local primary schools, offer free tickets for the kids, and only the accompaning adult pays– they are bound to also spend money in the ground on refreshments etc. but agree with previous views, success on the pitch should gain more interest. if we are near the top 4 at xmas, the support should follow.

Now where could we get cheap fish and chips from ?
Hopefully if we can give a away free advertising within the ground to a local fishmongers. The profit would be in the extra ticket entry hopefully the refreshments would work out at the same price as the cost.

Seems a good idea but I believe Charlton Athletic do this, including coach journey.

I suggest you look more closely John, we have a dedicated team of poster distributers, and one lady Joy Taylor takes the posters weekly to shops willing to display them.

Nothing wrong with my eyesight Ian, perhaps you should stop wearing your rose tinted ones my friend, still not seen one in any shops in the town or around the town. I'm not knocking the volunteers by the way as the do a great job.

Sorry but we have tried this in the past, and no matter how much we will try we will still struggle with attendances this season, as long as we get some results you never know crowds might go up a bit, but definiteley this season i can only see an avarage of 180 up Southwood this year.

I appreciate that this is a genuine attempt to provoke some discussions so not knocking any of the posters. Also, I'm not saying that I'm happy with our gates. We'd all like them to be bigger.
But going to football, or not going to football, becomes a habit. In the 50s there was no TV in the afternoons, let alone Sky showing live sport all the time, there wasn't the media mania about the Premier League which makes youngsters think if it isn't Chelsea it's not worth watching etc etc. Even at Middlesbrough, whio have spent most of the last 20 years in the Premier League, won thge league cup, got to a European final and reached several other semi finals and finals, I know several people in the last few years who decided to give it a miss for a game and realised that instead of spending the best part of the day, and the best part of £50 including booze and food and programmes, they could enjoy a whole day off with their families. And so have never come back and probably never will. Saturday afternoon football is no longer part of their life.
The sad fact is that there are literally thousands of people in Ramsgate who don't know that we have a team and if they did wouldn't consider giving up their seat in the armchair to go. And Ramsgate isn't the only town like that. As for falling crowds, yes our recent relegation plays a part but so does the economy.
So let's keep trying new ideas, but don't expect miracles.

Posters do get delivered to shops,I my self delivered some to Grange Rd,and they are displayed, have not been in town, but next time I go,I will have a look.
There must be a reason why we dont get bigger crowds, but WHAT.we had a reasonable pre-season,played some good football, but still cant even get 200,but I dont think we are the only team not attracting crowds, perhaps, too much tv football,it seems that football is on most nights.
But I have noticed the last couple of home games we have had a few 9-13ys, maybe 10 or so alright not a lot but if they enjoy the games, they might bring another couple.
The work party is this week working on the new cafe,if anyone has a free couple of hours it would be welcomed we are up the club from about 0945-1400,refreshments are free(water) but you can have as much as Ken thinks you earnt
