The sad thing is Sky Sports has ruined football for everyone!

Further, Not seen one poster (in Ramsgate Town) advertising Ramsgate's forthcoming matches
Over 120 posters go to local shops, but if anyone spots an appealing shop window (or other prominent location) please let Keith Matthews know.
If it would be useful I'll try and load future match posters on this site as a download, so you can print them off and stick them in your car/at work etc (but please, no flyposting as TDC will be on us straight away).
(In addition to television, improvements to raod network and increase in car ownership have changed how we all live, including how far we travel to work (!!), so it's not surprising that support for local football has gone down – especially when some London clubs arrange coaches to their home matches)

Taken from Welling United's Site:
This Saturday 4th September 2010 is Non League Day when football fans are encouraged to support their local Non League side, in the absence of any Championship or Premiership Football that weekend.
Blue Square Bet South club Welling United are offering all adult Premiership, Championship and Football League Club's Season Ticket Holders to watch Welling's home game on Saturday against Boreham Wood for just £5 on showing there season ticket at the turnstile. Also to encourage kids to Park View Road all Under 12s will gain free entry to the game.
Come on you Wings!
So there is a so called NON LEAGUE DAY this Saturday are Ramsgate doing anything for this?

Ramsgate are doing the same – discounted entry for anyone presenting a valid Premiership or Championship club season ticket at the turnstiles. Was sent ao all local media but maybe not newsworthy in their view.
Of course Under 12s get in FREE at all games at Southwood.

What doesn't help the situation is the poor state of the ground, i know the club hasn't got the funds for major ground improvements, but the simple things like the replacement of the fence panels down the side of the pitch (which was said would be done for the start of the season), clearing of the weeds on the terrace and sweeping the terraces, (the away end is a disgrace) and a general tidy up of the ground would surly help. I know all the work done up the club is voluntary, but surly its common sense to do all the visual jobs first.
As Ivor would say "Its all about first appearances"

I know everything isn't possible at once but i have to agree with Kev on the fencing – it looks a mess at the moment . On the one hand pre season improvements have been made to the ground whilst on the other things such as the fencing have got worse.
First impressions DO count and as we all know the club isn't the best of sights as you walk through the entrance gates. This must be a serious hinderance to us getting wedding/party bookings at the clubhouse. The building and the car park/forecourt ( the first things you notice) both look like they've seen much better days. Having said that, the management is obviously aware of this problem and would sort it if funds permitted. There's no point making significant investment unless you can see it generating worthwhile revenue streams.
These probably aren't the sort of things that will stop the regulars going and we aren't going to get more people through the turnstiles unless we see some promotions. This in turn would generate more income and enable money to be spent on ground improvements.

I agree with all thats been said, but the underining fact is unless we are playing THEM we will struggle to get mid hundreds, my guess this season we will struggle to average 220. Im sorry but its the way it is. There are more people going to see Charlton EVERY home game from thanet than come to Southwood. We could have a bigger ground with better facilities than Gillingham and still not get 500 average. What is more frustrateing when we had sky people used to come and see the early prem game in the bar and NOT venture into the ground at all.

Picking up on the primary school comment. Barnet have used this over 2 or 3 seasons. The invite the entire year of a school to attend together, teachers come free. They invite 3 or 4 schools to the same match. they normally fill the area behind a goal despite it being uncovered.
As a pro youth worker, why not invite local youth workers to act as crowd stimulators to get the music ringing.
Seriously if you set up a junior supporters club, membership cards for those that come through the schools and if they return for future games that season with their cards a discounted rate. If you have forms from the schools with those attending you could use direct mail with the newsletter to give updates onplayers etc with a special feast day fore the juniors.
Add to that a training programme for local sixth formers to train as stewards with a link up to a premier league club so that they could earn a couple of bob as trained stgewards could also be an incentive.
anyone got anything better?

we all know that the ground needs some work,at the moment we have 5 sometimes 6 people up doing odd jobs, people are complaining about the away end, other people are complaining that the Cafe is not finished,we can only do so much,in tne Cafe we need 3 people to put the panels up, I know a lot of people work, but if any one has a few hours during the week,we will,or as many as can make it,be up the ground Tues from 0930 ish until about 1400hrs.
If we have a few more bodies it would help us all,so to stop the moaning, lets try and all pull together, the work party is doing its best, but judging by the queue Sat the Cafe needs to be up and running sooner rather than later

Well said Den.
Wrt some of the above, we have invited local schools up in the past but the invitations are not always taken up owing to the need for them to have escorts and be supervised. We are planning more pre-match training/ball boy sessions where Mark W will have an invited team/school in, like we did at the Folkestone game last season.
Junior Supporters' Club is a good idea (raised with the committee in 2000) but unfortunately the RFSA dwindled shortly after that, perhaps they want to look into that again. As a Cub we are doing more for our youth players this season, as free admission doesn't seem to encourage them up, including a newsletter (when I can finf the time).
I agree about appearances and the new fencing adj to the car park certainly improves the look outside the stadium. We were promised 100m of steel weld-mesh fencing back in May, which was to go between the main pitch and the training area, but this still hasn't arrived (despite a couple of delivery dates coming and going).
You may have noticed the Club's Apprentice scheme that starts this week – hopefully some of the students will be interested in learning some of the roles where we need support (such as stewards), which may help.

Ref the fences:
Cant we approach a fencing company im sure they might have a few seconds or even donate some new fence panels,in return we can have a small plaque on each panel saying the have sponsored that particular panel. Just an idea.
Try Bailey fencing, there are loads more in the Directory.

But what about the look inside! surly the panels down the side of the pitch should take priority, putting them in front of the grey huts is quite bizzare.

I think you misread my post – there was supposed to be other fencing alongside the pitch (which hopefully will arrive shortly). I thought the portacabins adj to the car park were extremely unsightly, which is what visitors see first, particulalry those turning up for a non-football event.

Simple, each and every supporter bring two friends (who haven't been before) to every home match.

Why not have press gangs, force people to watch football, yours is a reasonable suggestion John but the people of thanet dont watch local football, less than 700 watch league football in thanet out of a population inxs of 150000 about 3\4 of 1%. The way foreward would be to be winning football matches. Theres a hole in my bucket……………………………………
