Rams 1 Oaks 3
Rams take lead but are then felled by the Oaks
The Oaks felled the Rams in a game seeing Ramsgate going in unbeaten in the league in 8 games and full of confidence, where they came up against a very strong and determined Sevenoaks Town side.
The early play however saw the Rams creating down the right and in the 9th minute, right wing back Jake Mackenzie cutting in ran onto a through ball and went one on one with the Oaks’ ‘keeper and slotted away a very well taken goal. The team and fans were certainly hoping for more of the same, with confidence brimming and the team playing well, but no matter how well the lads pressed they were unable to take advantage of their early dominance.
A defensive error in the 23rd saw Wheatley giving away a penalty for holding down an opponent, which gave the Oaks everything they needed to get back into the game. With Sawyer converting the pen to make it 1 -1, the Oaks were now taking control of the game and pressing forward. A fantastic stop by Watkins in the 28th minute was the save of the match but the Rams offered little creation and were always second best, and with the majority of the play coming down the Oaks’ right a cross in the 40th minute left Pogue alone to tap in giving the visitors a 1-2 lead at half time.
The second half was more of a battle with both sides creating very little, as the stats below prove out. Both sides used their allotted substitutions, but unfortunately for the Rams we saw Stannard come on and then go off with a knee injury. Another lapse in the Rams’ defence in the 78th minute led to another tap in at the back post, this time for Coleman for the Oaks, the game then panned out on a very even keel and to give Sawyer a just reward he was replaced with just minutes to go.
