Poles apart from the first encounter between these sides, a match set apart from anything else we have seen this season. From the outset two sides took to the field in a gladiatorial football match with both teams looking to pass and move. The first 25 minutes saw the Ram have the better of the play closing down the Sevenoaks players as soon as they were on the ball. The 13th minute saw Jack Penny collect a pass out on the left wing and he cut inside beating two players and fired a superb thunderous right foot shot curling towards the top corner (pictured above, with Jack on the extreme left of the image). The ‘keeper made every effort to save it but it evaded his fingertips and goes down as a major contender for goal of the season. The Rams went 2 up in the 26th minute from a Penny free kick struck into the box at a nice height for Crimmen to head home.
Sevenoaks then came back in to the game with some intricate passing and the Rams having closed down so much they seemed to relax a little allowing the Oaks to press winning a corner in the 29th minute. The Rams defence struggled to clear the ball properly and left the Oaks no2 Miles to hit the back of the Rams net. It was a little back to the wall defending for the next minutes while the Oaks pressed for an equaliser.
Second half, after Lloyd had had a few words, the Rams came out to play again and we were treated to the game of the season so far, with both sides having chances - the Oaks pressing and the Rams countering. It was not until the 52nd minute when from a Crimmen long throw a back header from Millbank looped over the Oaks ‘keeper and sealed the victory for the Rams. The Oaks still pressed forward and had several golden opportunities but squandered them in front of goal; also some excellent saves from Watkins kept them at bay.
A thrilling high tempo game - let’s play like that every game lads and the fans will flock to watch you!
