As you know, last Sunday we made the trip to the Channel Islands to face Guernsey. An overnight stay at Gatwick the night before as well as an early morning get up plus flight is never ideal preparation; however we did everything as professionally as we could.
When we combine that with the result and performance it makes it all worthwhile.
A fantastic 4-1 victory against a side that hadn’t lost in 8 games was mightily impressive. Our 2nd half showing was easily the best since taking charge and we simply blew Guernsey away. A tactical change as well as a positive discussion at half time had the desired effect but the players must take full credit. Everyone’s level of performance was exceptional and when Alfie gets chances like he did then he’s gonna gobble them up. 100 home fans waited to stand and clap our team off, which in my opinion was fully deserved.
The season is rapidly coming to its conclusion and our opponents at Southwood tomorrow, Corintian-Casuals, find themselves in 5th place occupying a play-off spot. With the restructuring of the league next season 3rd place could see them automatically promoted so I’ve no doubt we’ll have our hands full, however hopefully we can overturn the 4-2 score line from the reverse fixture back in November.
With 4 games remaining it’s important we continue where we left off last Sunday and show what a good team we are. Although our results at home have improved, we will be looking to replicate last week’s showing for you on Saturday afternoon.
Lastly, a big thanks to everyone who travelled 7 days ago. I’ve never known a bunch of fans like it... you were just amazing – and I hope to see you all again tomorrow!
