19 Aug: Ramsgate 3 Hanworth Villa 1 - FA Cup

Rams are Heroes over the Villains At Southwood

The Rams progressed to the next round with a dogged performance against their Combined Counties Prremier visitors. Hanworth Villa got off to a quick start with their fast fowards putting pressure on the home defence. Eventually the Rams gained control and Adam Woollcott had several close chances before Jack Penny found space on the left to pass to Alfie Paxman who slotted home into an open goal on 43 minutes.

Ramsgate seemed intent on controlling the second half, with Tom Chapman firing just over the crossbar in the 49th minute but 10 minutes. Ten minutes after the restart Adams was replaced by Hickman, allowing Jake Mackenzie to play on the wing, but two minutes later a mistake between George Crimmen and Luke Watkins saw the Rams' keeper attempt to head the ball clear, but it fell to centre forward Cyril O’Cawsey who rounded the 'keeper leaving himself an open goal and an easy gift of an equaliser.

Hanworth started to come into the match much more and created a couple of chances, but nothing that Watkins couldn't deal with. With 15 minutes to go Jake Mackenzie worked his way into the box from the right, and with a left foot curling shot on the turn fired the ball into the roof of the net from near the edge of the area. This spurred the Rams on, and only four minutes later Mackenzie started the move that, via Alfie Paxman, reached Chapman to blast home the final goal of the match (pictured above). The Rams had a further chance, with 5 minutes to go, when a freekick from near the half-way line was headed down by skipper Luke Wheatley, but Chapman's shot came back off the upright.

Attendance 183

The draw for the next round in a fortnight’s time has yet to be made, but in the meantime the Rams will welcome Greenwich Borough to Southwood on Tuesday in the Kent Senior Cup – 745pm kickoff.
