Ramsgate grabbed all three points with an unexpected late rally after the visitors appeared to have done enough to take the spoils with a 2nd half goal in this typical local derby slugging match.
The Rams started strongly and created the most chances, but despite near misses from Tom Chapman and Billy Munday the Rams failed to beat Ben Huntley in the Bay goal and even appeared to fade slightly as the interval approached and Herne Bay, inspired by Tom Carlton, started applying pressure.
The second half continued with the visitors more dominant but with Luke Watkins in the Rams goal performing heroics, and the Rams' counters failing to find their mark, the scoresheet remained blank. The deadlock was finally broken on 73 when a mazy run by Nassim Dukali opened up the home defence before he smashed the ball past the valiant Watkins. Herne Bay continued to push but on 85 Rory Smith equalised from one of the scrambles in the visitors' goalmouth (pictured above). Two minutes later super sub Billy Lewins gave Rams what by then was an unexpected win with a brilliant curling effort.
Ramsgate: Luke Watkins, Joe Kane (Jack Penny), Jacob Mensah, Liam Dickson, TJ Jadama (Billy Lewins), Tom Chapman, Billy Munday (Ollie Gray), Rory Smith, Danny Lawrence, Alfie Paxman. Unused subs: George Crimmen, Lewis Mitchell
Next Saturday the Rams travel to Surrey to face Chipstead.
