A busy bank holiday of football saw us play league leaders Tooting and Mitcham on Saturday and our local rivals Herne Bay on Monday.
Saturday was a bittersweet kind of feeling if we are honest. A 1-1 draw looks on paper a good result for us against the team who have accumulated over 100 pts this season, but the fact is we were disappointed not to have won. For those of you who were at the game you would agree we were much the better side, created the better opportunities and dominated territory, just one of those days were we didn't quite get the rub of the green. However it does show how far we have come to be drawing against the league leaders and to be disappointed in ourselves not to have taken all 3 pts.
Monday saw us head over to Herne Bay to complete the Bank Holiday games, which are never easy - two games in three days at the end of a hard, long season when players are running on empty is a tough ask. Fortunately we have a squad of players in which we can rotate however we did lack a little bit of quality. I've no doubt fatigue was a big factor in this but I can never doubt the heart of my players. They kept believing and managed to salvage a result...plus kept our unbeaten run going.
That's nine games now without defeat and although our opponents Molesey will be looking to put a stop to that tomorrow, it's certainly something we would like to finish the season off with, and my players have responded very well to our instructions these last 3 and a bit months but will have the summer off to recuperate.
Last week we assessed the fitness levels of all the players plus they will be given details of things to do and work on in the off season as well as their individual expectations. The boys are buying into these ideas and understand why we are doing them and I've no doubt they'll be prepared.
Finally it wouldn't be right without finishing off these programme notes here without us saying a big “thank you” to all you supporters.
You've had a difficult season. A season full of change and a season full of ups and downs but your unwavering support is just fantastic. I remember having a conversation with a close friend of mine who once played for Ramsgate, he said "Ramsgate fans are without doubt the best I've ever played for!"....and how right he was.
Your support towards myself, the players, and the staff has been overwhelming. Our focus is on 3 pts tomorrow as a way to say "thank you" and then we move on to next season....a season I personally can't wait to get going!!
