What a crazy day of football yesterday was. I’m still wondering and perplexed how we have lost that game like we did. After 10 minutes we were 2-0 up and quite frankly it could’ve been 5. We hit the post, the ‘keeper has made a great save and Chappo has been brought down for a blatant penalty. The Hastings management were almost apologetic about their victory after the game....”How have we won that? You have absolutely battered us!”
Now the raw emotion of the game has begun to subside I can analyse the performance with more clarity. Individual mistakes have haunted us this season and that’s exactly what cost us 3 points on Saturday. Such fine, fine margins that as a result see these score-lines, which our collective performance does not deserve. This game can be really cruel but repetitive schoolboy mistakes need to be eradicated. Even when we went down 3-2 we hit the post, had shots blocked on the line and put dangerous deliveries into the box. Our attacking play was just a delight to watch and were unlucky not to get more goals.... it was just one of those days that left us all (Hastings included) scratching our heads.
It won’t be long though before our Boxing Day fixture against Hythe and there was a collective feeling after the final whistle yesterday that we can’t wait for Tuesday to come so we can right our wrongs.
Lastly I’d like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. The Owner, the Chairman, Directors, players, staff, stewards..... everyone!
Your help this season has been very much appreciated.
The biggest “thank you” goes to you fans. I’ve never known a group like it. You guys are unbelievable and I hope I can put a smile on your faces Boxing Day.
