Tonight Ramsgate welcomed Old Kent League rivals VCD Athletic to Southwood for their first visit since 2004/05 in 13 seasons, when the Vickers were the only team to beat Ramsgate at home in the League in that double-winning season - and tonight they won 1-0 again.
The game was pretty intense, with end-to-end action with both teams making chances. The Vickers came closest in the closing minutes of the 1st half, when Luke Watkins pulled off a stunning double-reaction save at close range.
The 2nd half was end-to-end again, however in the 76th minute Joe Kane was cautioned for a challenge just outside the Rams' area, and with the resulting freekick Omar Lawson (No 7 on the left) curled the ball over the Rams' wall and inside the left hand upright, with Watkins too far over to reach it (pictured). Further chances were created by both teams, with the Rams finally dominating and throwing everything at an equaliser, but it proved to be too little too late, and the Vickers took all 3 points after a 1-0 win, just like on their last visit.
Ramsgate: Luke Watkins, Jake Mackenzie, Jack Penny, Joe Kane, Luke Wheatley (Jacob Mensah 89), George Crimmen, Tom Chapman, Jake Munday (Adam Woollcott 80), Rory Smith, Alfie Paxman. Unused subs: Billy Munday, Tijan Jadama, Lewis Mitchell.
Next up for the Rams is the visit of Guernsey on Saturday (28th October), with an earlier kickoff of 1245pm at Southwood.
