Alfie Paxman came desperately close to notching a last minute winner for the Rams but could not get enough purchase on the ball to beat Will Dennis who had been impressive throughout the game in the visitors' goal.
The young Rams team had the better of the 1st half, with Billy Munday inventive in midfield on his debut in the starting line-up and also going close with a long-range effort. Goalkeeper Will Dennis, on loan with Guernsey from Bournemouth, had to make several excellent saves from the Rams’ striking trinity of Rory Smith, Alfie Paxman and Tom Chapman, as well as a couple of freekicks and an attacking header in the box from Danny Lawrence, as the home team exerted early pressure.
Guernsey had more of the play in the second half, however 5 minutes after the restart a great run through the middle from (Sponsors’ Man of the Match) Jake Mackenzie saw the defender force his way into the area before delivering for Paxman to stab at goal, but Dennis got down well at the near post. Ross Allen missed a sitter for the visitors on 56, shooting wide of the left hand post, and later blasted over from a free kick. Guernsey sub Paris Pereira also missed a chance on 70, however ‘keeper Dennis was still resisting the Rams in the visitors’ goal and with 15 to go did well to deny a Rory Smith header (pictured above), and in the 82nd minute pushed a Chapman shot from the left around the post.
