The ‘Leafe started briskly and in just the 3rd minute Jordan Carey had to pull off a great save to deny Hassan Ibrahim, whilst less than a minute later a defensive error gifted Sam Clayton a chance, but the winger shot over. The home side took the lead in only the 6th minute however, through Scott Day’s 20 yard shot from the right. The Rams did not capitulate however, and after pressing Tom Chapman’s header on 27 was only just wide. On 35 minutes Whyteleafe replaced centre-forward Vance Bola with Tom Pearson, but the score remained the same until the interval.
After the break ‘Leafe looked to dominate play as they sought to extend their lead, which they nearly did in the 59th minute but Azeez Oliwonrun missed an open goal. The Rams kept battling however, and George Crimmen nearly equalised with a header from a corner on 65, and after TJ Jadama replaced Billy Munday with 20 to go, Aaron Millbank’s 73rd minute effort was only denied by a great save from ‘keeper Kyle Merson. The ‘Leafe looked to make sure of all three points, and Clayton nearly achieved this with 2 minutes on the clock, but another great save from Carey kept the deficit to a single goal. Clayton was replaced shortly after by Jordan Bethel, and Bentley Graham made way for Josh Adusei, as ‘Leafe tried to finish off the Rams, but the 1st half damage proved to be enough.
