Rams do a midweek double over Faversham

Tonight the Rams faced Ray Turner's Faversham outfit, and although they have not had a strong as start to the season as usual, they were battling for all the way - especially as the Rams took all three points at Salter's Lane in August.

Although Luke Watkins had to tip a Danny Walder freekick over the bar in the 5th minute, the first half was mainly the Rams possession-wise, and Simon Overland and his defence were under the most stress as the pace of Rory Smith, Tom Chapman and Alfie Paxman caused havoc creating many chances. In the end the deadlock was broken by Paxman, with a powerful header at the far post that bounced over Overland and into the net in the 21st minute. Seven minutes later and Tom Chapman doubled the lead, where persistence paid off and he robbed a defender in the box before turning to slot to Overland's left. Ten minutes later and a clumsy touch in the Rams' area saw the Faversham player hit the deck and win a penalty, which right back Sam Bewick fired to Watkin's right, and though the'keeper dived the right way it closed the gap to 2-1.

In the second half the Rams still had the most of the play, but Faversham were not giving up without a fight. The Rams' front line kept the barrage going however, and just after the hour-mark Chapman cut into the are from the left, and managed to keep going despite two heavy challenges, and bundled the ball past Overland at the near post to make it 3-1 (pictured above, with Chappers just getting back to his feet). The game was getting unnecessarily physical, and although the ref tried to let play run both of Faverham's centre-halfs received cautions, with centre-forward turned centre-half Carl Rook receiving a 2nd and being dismissed in the 71st minute. Faversham made three subs in the 79th and 80th minutes to adjust formation, and in the 84th minute sub Luke Griffiths fired a cross-goal ball into the net at the far post with an unstoppable volley to make it 3-2, but the points were the Rams.
