What a disappointing bank holiday weekend for us all. Neither of the opponents I saw on Saturday or Monday impressed me, yet we walk away without a single point.
The performance at Southwood against Hastings was bitterly frustrating...arguably the most frustrating since being in charge. There really wasn't much quality throughout the 90 minutes but again a lack of concentration cost us a point.
Unfortunately defensive errors are costing us and that proved to be the case against Hythe on Monday. For 40 minutes our ball retention was good and patient. We knew that would frustrate them and that was our game plan. Yes, a refereeing decision allowed them back into game, but I was annoyed at how easy we conceded the second goal. One long ball over the top catching our backline on their heels. Again a defensive mistake for their third goal after a sustained period of pressure from us put the game out of sight. Regardless of whether we had scored a couple more goals we would've still looked vulnerable and this is something I will address.
Let's keep perspective....I always said there would be a period of adversity. The large majority of this side proved last season that they have what it takes to win games yet no club, no team, no manager goes through a whole season without having to address some issues. We are a very young side and these players will learn from these experiences. I have faith they will come back stronger and get back to winning ways.
I look forward to training on Thursday in preparation for the FA cup fixture on Saturday against Egham Town.
Hope to see you all their on Saturday.
