Unfortunately the scheduled game against Balham has had to be cancelled as the visitors cannot now raise a team, however New Romney took their place at Southwood (having had a similar last-minute let down themselves) for an entertaining match with clinical finishing from Rory Smith scoring a brace of very well taken goals supplemented by an excellent header from Billy Munday. The Rams going forward were putting good moves together however although New Romney did not press that much, and with a complete team change for the second half, the Rams did then look a little suspect at the back with a couple of good attacking moves. Overall a good performance from the Rams and a deserved 3 - 0 win.
The Rams took a two goal lead in the first half through Rory Smith, the first coming from a great move when he squared up to his man on the edge of the box and bent the ball inside the far post. The second goal came after another good move, this time down the right hand side. After a cross from Tom Chapman, Rory manipulated the ball onto his right foot and drilled it into the far corner. In the second half the lead was extended after some good possession in the centre of midfield led to a great run into the channel by Tom Chapman. Billy Munday kept his own run into the box going, and a cross from Chapman was met with a diving header from Munday (pictured) past 'keeper Egan.
After the game Blacky confirmed it was a good work out, and that he was particularly impressed with the performances of Jacob, TJ, Rory and Jake Munday.
Saturday sees the Rams visit Hartsdown for the final pre-season match against Margate - 3pm kickoff.
