Today the Rams played on the Estuary side of the Island, as their final pre-season friendly saws them facing old rivals Margate, and unless the sides are drawn together in a cup draw this may be the only derby this year. As Blacky confirmed in his Briefing, with only a week to go before serious football commences, the squad are carrying a few knocks and with a couple of players unavailable we headed into the game with a mix of first team and U23s, however the players seemed to acquit themselves very well against their higher-league hosts.
A feisty derby game which was dominated by Ramsgate with the majority of the first half gone the game came to life a goal from Charlie Dickens in 41st minute from a well worked move sent the few Ramsgate supporters into rapture. However just two minutes later and virtually from the restart the Rams showed their defensive frailties again, or maybe they had not switched back on after the goal celebrations, leaving Collins an unchallenged opportunity to equalise 43rd minute.
The second half was an even battle with neither side taking any major advantage, as a Margate fan you would have to be disappointed with the way your side are playing. Some of the high points for the Rams were Jacob Mensah controlling everything Joe Taylor tried, Sam Lawford and Harry Stannard making the Margate full backs look slow and Aaron Millbank seemed to be able to turn Tom Wynter at will.
Rams: Luke Watkins, Harvey Laws, Jake Mackenzie, Jacob Mensah, Luke Wheatley, Charlie Dickens, Sam Lawford, TJ Jadama, Aaron Millbank, Billy Munday, Harry Stannard, Jake Munday, Ethan Madden, George Batney, Owen Fitts, Jordan Bartlett, Tom Hickman, Liam Dickson, James King.
Next Saturday the Rams start the 2018/19 season with a trip to Crayford in southeast London to visit VCD Athletic.
