I’ve said for previously that our performances over the last 6 weeks or so have been very good and we haven’t necessarily got the results we probably deserved. Grittier performances and results against Whyteleafe and Molesey were pleasing also....so it was nice to see our players rewarded for their hard work on Saturday against Herne Bay. By no means our best performance yet the players “never say die attitude” meant we were able to steal all 3pts from under our rivals noses.
We were unable to get our passing game going. Sloppy mistakes and players dwelling on the ball meant our attacking game suffered and although we carved out the better of the first half opportunities our opponents certainly had the better of the 2nd half and deserved their lead.
After some personnel and tactical changes it was a great feeling to see young Billy Lewins get the winner in the dying moments. Standing right in line with him when he struck it, I knew it was in the moment it left his foot. It was a sublime strike into the far corner and a finish fitting for a higher standard than our performance on the day.
Liam Dickson also made his debut on Saturday. Dicko (pictured above) was part of the hugely successful backline at Folkestone a few years ago and I’m delighted to have signed him. His experience, attitude and character is just what our young squad requires.
Thursday our U23s take on our fiercest rivals Margate at Southwood. James Read has done a marvellous job with these boys and I look forward to seeing you as many Rams fans there for support.
