Rams win at Woodstock

Tonight Ramsgate travelled to Woodstock Park to play Sittingbourne in the third attempt to stage this Bostik League South fixture. The Brickies parted company with manager (and ex-Ram) Nick Davis a few weeks back, and are now in the charge of Aslan Oder, and before the game were in 16th spot, 3 above the Rams, so the usual tough battle was on the cards.

The Rams settled early, and in the 5th minute Alfie Paxman went close but his header was just over the bar. It was the Brickies who were first off the mark, however, with David Smith netting in the 10th minute in the bottom left corner with Jordan Carey unsighted. The Rams continued to press, and home ‘keeper Muhammed Otuyo denied Paxman’s freekick two minutes later, while after a further 2 minutes Tom Chapman’s shot was sliced wide. Just after the half-hour mark, new Kyron Lightfoot had a good run at the Sittingbourne defence but shot outside the post, while on 36 minutes a foul in the area Fabrice Blewordah gave the home no 3 a caution and the Rams a penalty, but Aaron Millbank’s spot kick sailed over the bar.

Five minutes after the interval Paxman drew another good save from Otuyo, although a minute later the Brickies almost extended their lead through Jide Okimeji, however his shot was cleared off the Rams’ line. Three minutes later and Rhys Bartlett shot wide, however the Rams’ trio of Paxman, Chapman and Lightfoot continued to give Sittingbourne’s defence a hard time, but could not find the breakthrough. Just after the hour mark Sittingbourne extended their lead through ex-Ram Tom Loynes, however within a minute Chapman reduced the deficit to a single goal again. Lightfoot made way for Rory Smith shortly after, as the Rams continued their fight back, with skipper Liam Dickson levelling the scores with less than 10 to go. A minute later and Millbank finally got on the score sheet, giving the Rams a 3-2 lead, and 2 minutes later returning striker Sam Lawford replaced Chapman, however the Rams had done enough for 3 vital away points, and with two wins in a row should feel a bit more confident going into Saturday’s home match against Chipstead.

Ramsgate: Jordan Carey, Jacob Mensah, Jack Penny, Liam Dickson, George Crimmen, Ollie Gray, Tom Chapman (Sam Lawford), TJ Jadama, Aaron Millbank, Kyron Lightfoot (Rory Smith), Alfie Paxman. Unused Subs: Tom Hickman, Luke Wheatley, Luke Watkins.
