I'm writing these notes on the coach on our way home after our FA cup replay victory against Egham Town.
If we rewind back to Saturday it goes to show how important that late equaliser from Luke Wheatley was. I thought for large spells of the game we were able to deal with what Egham threw at us.
We knew they were direct and we knew we had to restrict the space in-behind because of their pace in attacking those areas (and we did that very well), however a couple of lapses of concentration cost us and with the scoreline reading 3-1 the tie looked over.
A fantastic goal from Alfie gave us a chance and although a big side they didn't dominate defensively as much as we anticipated, and when they didn't deal with a free kick in the last minute it allowed Wheatley to earn us a replay. I would love to say that Wheats does that every week in training but I would be lying... however when the crucial moment came he delivered and kept our name in the hat.
Tonight's victory was very pleasing. A long journey to West London saw us arrive 15/20mims later then we would've ideally liked and that probably had something to do with the slow start. Again though the boys showed what they are all about and a fantastic win (and an even better hat trick from Alfie) has confirmed our place in the next round away at Chelmsford City.
Let's keep this positive feeling around the club going and hopefully we can provide you with another win and 3 points on Saturday afternoon.
Hope to see you then
