Rams take the lead twice, but the Blues go through in the Trophy on Non-League Day

This afternoon Ramsgate faced Bostik North side Bury Town in the FA Trophy, and although it was the first ever meeting with the team from Bury St Edmunds, with the Blues challenging for the play-offs in the North Division it was going to be full of action.

A 3rd minute cross from Jake Munday allowed Alfie Paxman to dink the ball over ‘keeper Luis Tibbles for a very early lead, and a quick throw from Paxman over a defender was picked up by Tom Chapman, who calmly slotted past Tibbles to extend it to 2-0 on 26. The Rams continued to dominate and create chances but loose defending allowed a 12 yard shot from Cemal Ramadan to make the score 2-1 in the 34th minute, and with the Rams still recovering a 20 yard shot by Ryan Jolland beat Watkins 4 minutes later for Bury’s first equaliser.

Three minutes into the 2nd half Danny Lawrence put the ball to Chapman, and with the ‘keeper coming out it looked like the ball was going into the Blues’ net off the post, but it was cleared off the line. On 55 Paxman whipped the ball in to Rory Smith, who lost his marker, but Tibbles did well to smother his shot. Rams re-established a lead just after the hour-mark when Paxman outpaced David Cooper and shot low past the ‘keeper. The Rams continued to press but in the 68th minute Ramadan stayed on-side to get his 2nd to equalise again, and less than a minute later the Blues took the lead for the first time through Noel Aitkens. With 15 minutes to go a great cross from Aitkens was put in by Ramadan for his hat-trick and to seal the win.
