Although pre-season is vitally important and essential, I'm sure I speak for the majority when I say it's glad to finally be over. We've worked hard for the last 6 weeks to make sure we are ready for the new 2017/18 campaign and now the players can't wait to get going.
Our performance Friday against Margate was not only pleasing but also highlighted areas we need to continuously work on. Missing key players like Millbank, Kane and Lawrence, yet still dominating a Bostik Premier opposition for a good hour, will give us confidence.
Our attacking play in the first half in particular was fantastic ... all thre were different types of goals and if it hadn't been for a contentious penalty (which the referee later apologised for giving) then I don't think Margate would've got back into the game.
However as I've said before, the pre-season results aren't that important to me - it's about giving players more minutes in preparation for Saturday.
Our opponents here this weekend have signed well in the summer and I'm looking forward to a really competitive match. They had an outstanding season in the Ryman North in 2016/17 and I'm sure they'll be looking to build on that this year.
Just to keep you all updated. Aaron Millbank had a minor surgery on his knee last week and so far has responded very well, so we hope to see Aaron back very soon. I'm also extremely pleased to announce that Rory Smith has agreed to sign a contract for the up and coming season, which adds to our already exciting attacking side.
Lastly a big ‘congratulations’ to our captain Joe Kane, who got married to his lovely partner Michelle. We all look forward to seeing you on your return from your honeymoon.
Anyway, hope to see you on Saturday.
