U23s 5 Horsham 1
Rams' 5 stings the Hornets
Ramsgate responded to defeat in the first game of the season at Three Bridges with an impressive 5-1 victory at home to Horsham.
A decent start by the away team saw them take the lead when the ball was put into his own net by George Crimmen following a move where the wide player for Horsham found himself in space after a good move. Ramsgate started to press a lot higher up the pitch and equalised on the stroke of half time when Lewis Doyle lashed in after a goal mouth scramble.
At half time, with the score 1-1, the Rams switched to a 3-5-2 formation to put Horsham under more pressure at the back and it made an instant impact. Make-shift striker Lewis Doyle held up the ball and laid off Ethan Madden who smashed in the bottom corner. Two injuries in the first half saw the Rams use both their subs and it was one of these, Ben Munday, who extended the lead with a fabulous strike from 20 yards in the bottom corner. Three soon became four when Lewis Doyle tapped in at the back post and the victory was complete when Ben Munday fired another strike from outside the area into the other corner.
An excellent team effort full of hard work, pressing and organisation which got the team the first 3 points of the season.
