The best way to keep up to date with Ramsgate Football Club

11 Sep: Hastings 2 Under 23s 0

The Development side battle a strong 'Us' side, as well as the floodlights

The Under 23s made the 9 hour round trip to East Sussex and back last night, and with the Cray ‘away’ and Margate ‘home’ fixtures postponed already this season, momentum was needed to engage from the off.

Faced with a very strong side with the inclusion of four first team regulars, most notably Lee Carey, it was tough one from the whistle. Ramsgate won the battles at times but couldn’t settle to create the great forward movement they have. Finally, after 25 minutes, Hastings found a way through the back four creating a one-on-one with ‘keeper Ryan Birch, who did well to open his body up to stop the initial shot only for the ball to come back off the Hastings player and find the back of the net.

The second half saw the Rams starting to create chances and getting some shots on target, but the Hastings ‘keeper was having none of it! 20 minutes in the floodlight in the far right corner went out but the ref decided the game should continue, against the concerns of the Ramsgate technical area. Shortly after a quick free kick taken by the home side caught Ramsgate out and a good finish made it 2-0. Strangely, after that the light come back on, but the Rams dug in deep and worked as a team, with the right attitude and not rolling over, and continued the battle to the final whistle.

Next up for the Under 23s is the home game against Greenwich Borough on Thursday 21 September, 7:45 kick off.
