After a strong first half, the second game in 3 days saw the Rams start the second half slow and offering the very experienced visitors too much respect and inviting far too much pressure, but the solid back four soaked it up well and the Rams ran out convincing winners.
With only 6 minutes on the clock, Jordan Bartlett found himself one-on-one and finish with a very calm chip over the ‘keeper to give the Rams an early lead. Now starting to settle against a relatively senior Cray side, Dan Keyte struck a wonderful left-foot volley from 25 yards on 23 minute that left the visiting ‘keeper with no chance to make it 2-0, followed 5 minutes later with a goal by Billy Lewins with a nicely well worked finished on the turn (pictured above).
In the second half Ramsgate found themselves conceding two goals in 10 minutes to bring the score back to 3-2 after a show of dominance from the visitors. The Rams’ fight and determination to work hard for each other started to pay off and Sam Bradley, who had replaced Bartlett at the interval, converted a superb hat-trick, and with other goals from Ollie Harris and Bradley Torrance finished the game off 8-2.
Next up for the Under 23s is a trip to Surrey next Wednesday, 18 October, when they visit Whytleafe.
