After not scoring a single goal against Greenwich in either fixture last season, the young Rams showed how far they have come as they looked unstoppable at Southwood tonight.
From the first whistle Ramsgate sent Greenwich to the back four with the ball, and pressing as one and high found themselves 1-0 up on 4 minute thanks to a cool finish by Bradley Torrance to a great ball in from the right from Ollie Harris. Good spells of position and some great defending by the Rams offered the visitors nothing. In the 34th minute Tijan Jadama followed up to the box putting the ball under the visiting ‘keeper to make it 2-0, while 7 minutes later a fine finish from Ollie Harris made it 3-0 at the interval.
With the midfield of Jake Munday, Billy Munday and Tijan Jadama winning everything in the first half, the second half continued in the same manner, and with the back four of Harvey Laws, Matthew Causer, Jacob Mensah and Jack Penny defending almost everything the visitors threw at them, ‘keeper Joe Twyman (reliable as ever) only had to make some great saves occasionally.
It was only 7 seconds into the half that Zach Sharpe, after pressing and working so hard, got his reward and finished with class to make it 4-0. On 55 manager James Read made some adjustments, with Jake Munday making way for Adam Turton and Zach Sharpe replaced by Jordan Bartlett. Both changes making an impact straight away, keeping the tempo of the attacking play, and Jordan Bartlett made it 5-0 on the hour mark. Jack Penny was later substituted by Josh Kelsall on, but the Rams weren’t finished and kept playing the way they set out, and showing no mercy Jordan Bartlett made it 6-0 in the 87th minute.
Next up for the Ynder 23s is Ashford on Thursday 28 September (745pm kickoff), which will see some old faces returning to Southwood. Don’t miss it!
