Last night Ramsgate finally started their season with a home fixture, and with players missing this provided a chance for some Under 18s to come in.
Ramsgate started off with high tempo and an amazing work rate, creating chance after chance, and looked very unforgiving going forward. And with the back four standing firm the first half was set, with Billy Munday opening up the scoring with a thunder strike in the bottom corner from just outside the 18 yard box on 10 minutes.
With Dan Lawrence at number 10 the balls to the front men just kept coming, keeping the visiting goalie very busy. After some great build up play from the midfield of Billy Munday, Tijan Jadama and wide players Brad Torrance and Ollie Harris, Harris fired home on 38. This was followed 4 minutes later by a very hard working Sam Bradley, who picked up the ball on the half way line from a defence error and with a composed finish sent Ramsgate in at half time 3-0 up.
The start of the second half saw two changes, Dan Lawrence off for Jordan Bartlett, and Sam Bradley made way for Zach Sharpe. Whyteleafe refused to roll over and applied pressure from the whistle. The Rams’ back line of Abdoulie Corr, Brandon Adam, Matt Causer and Llewen Campbell stood in defiance of the pressure and ‘keeper Joe Twyman making some incredible stops. until after 25 minutes a gap opened up and the Whyteleafe striker finished in good style. Ten minutes later and with fatigue kicking in the 'Leafe found another opening and themselvess right back in the game making it 3-2. The Rams weren’t going to let all that hard work go and Abdoulie Corr was replaced with Charlie Cook to shore up the back four. The team still wanted to play and go for a fourth but they didn’t forget the defensive duties dug in deep and took the 3 points.
The Under 23s’ have to wait over a week for their next League action, when they visit Hastings on Monday 11th September.
