5 Oct: Under 23s 3 Faversham 0

9 months ago By Martin Able

Under 23s emulate 1st XI, taking 3 points off Faversham at Southwood.

Tonight the Under 23s faced the unbeaten Faversham Development side, managed by former Ramsgate Coach Paul Murray, with a win that moved the Rams up into 3rd place in the League, just one place and a single point behind their visitors.

Ramsgate made their intentions clear from the off, pressing Faversham from the whistle and asking the visitors to make their decisions early on. This finally paid off in the 24th minute when some fantastic play starting at the back found its way to Jake Munday, who finished with class to make it 1-0. With the Ramsgate back four of Harvey Laws, Matt Causer, Jacob Mensah and Llewan Campbell standing solid and winning everything, the midfield of Adam Turton, Billy Munday, Jake Munday had the all-important confidence to move the ball around and totally dominate the visitors, feeding ball after ball to the impressive front line of Bradley Torrance, Jordan Bartlett and Ollie Harris.

Half-time instructions to the Rams were not to think the job was done, and they set about their task in the same manner as how they had finished the first half. Early pressure saw Jordan Bartlett make it 2-1 in the 47th minute after a great finish. A goalkeeping error should have seen the Town keeper off to the changing room, but instead the referee only showed a yellow. With the visitors not having any answers for the attacking play of Ramsgate Ollie Harris made 3-0 with a great left foot finish, while returning ‘keeper Lewis Mitchell took charge at the back and, as well as pulling off a couple of great saves, helped the Rams defend with confidence and dominance for the whole 90 minutes.

Team: Lewis Mitchell, Harvey Laws, Matthew Causer, Jacob Mensah, Llewan Campbell, Jake Munday, Adam Turton (Zach Sharpe) , Billy Munday, Bradley Torrance, Oliver Harris (Callum Weatherly), Jordan Bartlett (Sam Bradley)

Unused subs: Joe Twyman, Abdouile Corr

A great performance from the young side who now have kept two clean sheets in 5 games.

Next game for the Under 23s is at home on Tuesday night (10th October) when they welcome Chatham Town in the Kent intermediate Cup – another one not to miss!
