With the away fixture at League leaders Leatherhead earlier in the season ending in a 6-0 thumping the Young Rams adapted to newly appointed manager James Read, and a new formation, very well.
Leading the team was captain Mitchell Laing, with a side that featured three 16 year olds and four 17 year olds from Ramsgate’s Development Squad (some of whom, like Laing, have already debuted in the 1st Team).
After chances that could have made the young Rams 2-0 up in the first 10 minutes, the game settled and unfortunately the lads gave Leatherhead their first goal, but this was cancelled out on the 21 minute mark by the impressive Brandon Adam who levelled the score.
Ramsgate looked dangerous going forward and made it 2-1 a minute later with a goal from right back Abdoulie Corr. The young Rams appeared to suffer a lack of concentration at this point and let Leatherhead back in to make it 2-2 and the visitors then took the lead, until a great individual goal just before the break by Billy Lewins sent the sides in level 3-3 at half time.
The second half was entertaining to watch, and a great advert for honest hard working young lads with the will to progress, but the score remained 3-3.
Manager’s Man of the Match was Jake Munday, while new signings Ryan Birch, Curtis Steve and Tijan Jadama also made a good impact.
Apart from those that may be involved on Saturday in the 1st team squad, you can next catch the U21s at Southwood on Thursday 23 February, when they face Carshalton (745pm kickoff).
