The Academy returned to league action after a two month lay-off when they hosted the Harefield (Watford FC ) Academy at Southwood Stadium on Wednesday.
Not dissimilar to the Rams' visit to Uxbridge before Christmas, the Hornets had to endure a two and a half hour journey from north west London, arriving only twenty-five minutes before the scheduled KO time of 1.30pm.
For the first fifteen minutes of the match it looked pretty much all one-way traffic as Watford seemed content just to defend and very rarely moved out of their half, with Ramsgate pushing for the opening goal with a number of near misses or saves by their 'keeper. In the 24th minute Se'mon Murphy put the Rams 1-0 up, and by half-time the home side could have been out of sight by three or four goals. And just before the interval their 'keeper made a bizarre save; while diving to his left to block Cory Hansen’s telling shot, the ball deflected off one of their defenders which sent the ball goal-bound high to the right, only to see their 'keeper stretch out his right leg and defect the ball over the cross bar.
In the second half Watford were pushing for an early equaliser, and with Ramsgate missing numerous chances the visitors began to venture deep into the Rams' half, which eventually paid off with and leveled the score at 1-1. Ramsgate made a number of substitutions to liven up what was becoming a dour match, which to be honest looked likely to end in a draw. In the 83rd minute however, the Rams managed to score a second, through sub striker Kyle Nicholas, to secure yet another 3 points.
