Blacky's Briefing: Pre-season Done and Dusted as we Prepare for VCD Athletic
Pre-season concludes, and we're looking forward to Saturday.
As I’ve said before, I’ve been very pleased with the work we’ve done pre-season. Fitness levels have been good and training has been very specific to how we want to play. It’s been intense and I’d like to think the boys have enjoyed it too.
Last Saturday was our final pre-season fixture against local rivals Margate, and although missing a few senior players I thought we did enough to win the game. The young lads really did perform well and, against an experienced side like Margate have, they acquitted themselves superbly. Our opposition featured some big non-league names yet our side featured 5 academy players and, as I said, upon reflection of the 90 minutes I felt we were the superior.
I try not to read too much into pre-season results for obvious reasons but at our first training session back in mid-July we made sure we would treat each game as a league game, whilst understanding the process was to build up ready for August 11th, and the players have really bought into that.
Our first fixture sees us travel to VCD. Their manager Keith McMahon I’m sure will, like us, be looking to build on last season. Every team will be looking to start the season with 3 points, and preparation this week has been excellent and I know we are all looking forward to getting things underway.
Lastly....the management team and players (pictured above before training on Tuesday) are extremely grateful for all your support you’ve been giving us. To see all the fans and players interacting at the final whistle is what makes this club so great and I for one feel extremely privileged to be your Head Coach.
I hope you all enjoy the game Saturday, and I look forward to seeing you there.
Up the Rams.
