Blacky's Briefing: Recent Form, Watkins' Golden Glove & Preparations for Hythe Town

06/12/2018

Last week we travelled to play-off side Phoenix Sports and had 3 maybe 4 very good chances in the first 30 minutes and being 1-0 up at half time was probably the least we deserved. The 2nd half was a scrappy affair but the players were very resilient and a draw away from home now means we’re 5 unbeaten.

Congratulations to Luke Watkins winning the  Golden Glove award for October having only conceded 3 league goals in 5 games. Typically he was quick to praise his defence for making that possible and shows how unified this group of lads have become.

It seems a long time ago that we were playing a Saturday League fixture at Southwood; Thamesmead in the middle of September being our last but we now have 3 home games from our next 4, and I’m hoping we replicate the kind of form we have shown away from home this last 6 weeks.

Tomorrow we face Hythe, currently sitting 3rd in the league, and Sam Denly is doing a great job at my old club. I’ve no doubt they’ll be competing for a promotion place come the end of the season.

I hope to see you all at Southwood tomorrow.
