Blacky's Briefing: VCD Reaction as Ramsgate Prepare to Face League Leaders Cray Wanderers
Lloyd reviews a hard start, before welcoming the league leaders
Last Saturday we travelled to VCD for the start of our season and a 2-1 defeat was extremely frustrating. We didn’t start at all well, and 2 goals after 20 minutes saw us with a mountain to climb to salvage anything from the game. The harder the boys tried the more they moved away from what we do.
However, I certainly take a lot of positives from the way they reacted at half time, and in the 2nd half they showed real character to do everything to get back in the game and that was pleasing; they certainly didn’t go hiding. We all took responsibility for a below average performance in the first half, and on another day maybe would’ve walked away with a result.
During the week we travelled to Cray Wanderers in the Kent senior cup. It’s been arranged a lot earlier than in previous years but enabled us to look at a few things. A hard match, against well-organised opposition, and so the result was disappointing even though not surprising. I took a lot of positives from the way the players performed, especially first half. Cray are very pleasing on the eye but as a coach the players executed things as I wanted too.
Tomorrow we welcome Hastings United for the first of three home ties at Southwood within 9 days. Although only one game in, Hastings lead the league table after an impressive opening win against Thamesmead. Myself and Hastings manager Chris Agutter speak regularly and he’s an exceptional coach - I wish them all the best this season.....however not including tomorrow.
The boys really value your support and your influence as a 12th man cannot be underestimated.
I hope to see you there tomorrow afternoon and later in the bar.
