Blast From the Past: Jim Ward's Ramsgate Win the Double (1998/99)

20 years ago in 1999 Ramsgate ended a 42-year wait, winning the Kent League under the management of Jim Ward. In that same season, the mighty Rams were victorious in the Kent Senior Trophy and also made the quarter-finals of the FA Vase.

Now, Football Development Manager Jim Ward has reflected on a “special” season for Ramsgate.

“My team ended a very long wait to win the league, won the Kent Senior Trophy and managed to get to the quarter-finals of the FA Vase amongst the very best,” Jim said.

“That year (1999) in my managerial career was really special and I still keep in contact with some of the players today.”

“We got promoted, but because the standard of our facilities didn’t mean the sufficient requirements, the club was not able to progress,”

“That was the only blow in an amazing campaign.”
